Seechange Health Solutions platform shown to increase healthy behavior while reducing costly hospital utilization

SeeChange Health Solutions announced the results of a three-year study demonstrating its ability to positively increase individuals' healthy behaviors and reduce medical spending. The study tracked over 120,000 employees and their dependents participating in health incentive programs offered by their employers and powered by SeeChange Health Solution's proprietary Engagement Platform.
The White Paper, released by SeeChange Health, studied the experience of three employers offering financial rewards to their insured members voluntarily completing health actions aimed at identifying otherwise undetected serious or chronic medical conditions. The health actions, which varied by employer, included annual preventive exams, age appropriate cancer screenings, and biometric testing for chronic conditions such as diabetes, prediabetes, hyperlipidemia, and hypertension.
By the end of 2012, the third year of each employer's incentive program, nearly 80%--roughly 100,000 individuals--completed at least one health action, approximately 42 percent completed more than 50% of all health actions in the program and 12% completed all of their employers' designated health actions. During this same three year period hospital utilization showed a decreased trend averaging 10-20% in reduced hospital admissions, bed days, and ER visits and a more than 50% reduction in costly and largely preventable hospital readmissions. With an estimated return of more than 2.5 times their investment, the SeeChange Health Solutions Platform was a critical component of each employer's health management program.
"Increased engagement in wellness and preventive programs hold great promise to not only bend the cost curve in health care, but to improve the quality of life for individuals while delivering a healthier, more productive workforce for employers," said Martin Watson, SeeChange Health's CEO. "As this study shows, the SeeChange Health Solutions Platform can deliver on that promise."
