Question for you guys. I am scheduled to take my CISSP exam on the 25th and I want to get my CEH after that. I have taken the 5 day CNDA course but I must get my CEH cert before the CNDA cert.Is the CNDA worth getting. It's literally the same thing as CEH but I'm wondering if it's worth it to get it just for resume filler?
Also does anyone know if you keep the CNDA cert after changing jobs if it's not government?
Thanks in advance.

thanking you all I would nail down where you'd like to go in security. There are quite a few different security domains. I'd say with a development and a networking background, you'd be a viable candidate for something like Pen Testing. Certifications like SSCP, CEH, GPEN could be useful for getting into Pen Testing.
Goals for 2014:
CCNA: Security & SSCP (scheduled for 1/17) - PASSED
GIAC - GPEN(6/2014)
Associate of ISC2 - CISSP (8/2014)
B.S. IT - Security, 44 CU left as of 12/2013. (12/2014)

Certifications GSEC, EnCE, CISSP, SSCP, CASP, CCNA, CCENT, CWSP, CWNA, CWTS, Security+, Server+, Network+, A+, DHTI+, PDI+, MSIT InfoSec (CNSS 4011, 4013) 12-31-2013 03:17 PM #3
WHen interested in Information Security, we usually suggest starting with the CompTIA Security+ certification. Security+ is a good cert to determine if you are interested in the topics of Information Security at all. Many people decide on a career in InfoSec, but when they start studying for the InfoSec cert exams they find the topics very uninteresting and boring. You gotta find out if InfoSec is really what you want to do with your time and your brain.

Certifications B.Sc. Information System Security, CISA, CISSP, CCNP:Security, GISP, GCIA, VCP v4, CCNA R/S, MCITP:EA, MCSE NT,2K,2k3 12-30-2013 03:09 PM #1

Thought this might be interesting to general security types:
Stanford Cryptography I - Online Class
The Grinch posted about a similar class back in 2011. This one is set to start up on the 6th. 5-7 hours per week estimated workload at 6 weeks. If you complete the quizes and problem sets (above 70%) you'll get a signed certificate of completion (perfect for CPE's I would assume).
There are programming skills presumed, but from what I've read the programming should be either minimal or optional.
Hope it helps.

Sounds interesting. It looks as though the website Stanford is linking to is currently down.
Also, to anyone interested in this type of thing, there is a program run by MIT, Stanford, Harvard, etc called EDX that offer free courses in Computer Science with a certificate of completion that could possibly be used on a resume.

You can also take the Stanford course for free on Coursera - that's where I dabbled in it. The video lectures are simple to understand and material is interesting. I would definitely recommend this course.

@paul78, it's the same one.
I started but could never finish the course. I think if I gave it the ol' college try I could, but it's been so long that I've forced my brain to work in statistical maths like discrete probability that I'm still on the fence about giving it another go-round.
